When going on a safari, it’s important to pack accordingly. It’s unfamiliar territory for most holidaymakers, but with a few key items you can ensure a comfortable trip and be well-prepared for a holiday in Africa. So what do you need when going on safari? Firstly you need to check with your accommodation as to what they supply, so towels, toiletries, etc, and if they don’t, those will also need to be added to this list.
Remember that being comfortable is paramount whilst on safari, so pack loose fitting garments, that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. So for clothing, pack:
- Light cotton trousers
- Cotton shorts
- Light cotton shirts (long and short sleeved)
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Shower-proof rain jacket / windbreaker
- Sun hat
If you’re going on safari during the winter remember to pack warm clothing, including an extra warm jacket, woollen hat, scarf and gloves.
As well as clothing you will need to pack some other accessories to make sure that you have everything you could possibly need while enjoying your safari holiday. These include:
- Insect repellent
- Small torch
- Bathing suit
- Suntan lotion
Those are some essentials that every person going on a safari should have with them. Long trousers are an oft-overlooked essential, as is a good pack of wet wipes. For women, it’s also recommended by Tripadvisor to take a high-impact rated sportsbra (or two, depending on the length of you safari) along because the roads you will be travelling on while on safari are likely to be very bumpy. Other than that, remember your camera, charger for the batteries and a good, dust-proof bag to ensure you are able to capture all of the sights you’re sure to see while enjoying your safari holiday.
